Montana Legislature to Consider Additional “COVID-19 Rules” for Legislative Session Tomorrow

Montana State Legislature.

Update: Meeting changed from Tuesday 1/12 to Thursday 1/14.

The Montana State Legislature is considering new “COVID-19 rules” for the 2021 legislative session tomorrow. The Legislative Leadership COVID-19 Response Panel is considering rules that would make the legislative session 100% remote, require masks, and more. Tentative rules already adopted by the panel include temperature checks, masking requirements for legislative staff work areas, and limitations on the types of food that may be shared.

Reports indicate that the committee is being pressured by various groups to “COVID up” and to increase COVID-19 restrictions at the Legislature. Last Friday, lawmakers heard 45 minutes of public testimony supporting continued forced mandates related to COVID-19.

It is expected that if the panel acts out of fear and creates additional draconian “COVID-19 rules” for the legislative session, subsequent bills passed by the legislature will no doubt put pain on Montanan’s with additional needless COVID-19 restrictions.

Written public comment closes at noon today.

The Legislative Leadership COVID-19 Response Panel will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, January 12, 2121, at 10:30am. The Panel may take a limited amount of public testimony.
