When I was deployed in Afghanistan, I often prepared and/or briefed aircrews on deliberate air assault infil/exfil – when a bunch of special forces troops jump out of Chinooks and Blackhawks under the dominant eye of Apache overwatch.

We were just a battalion sized element, but we analyzed soil type, illumination, slope of the ground obtained by UAS, structures, personnel, enemy weapons systems, weather, disturbed ground, heat variance of a landing zone, all the way down to where the top target would be taking a dump when we dropped in to send them to the underworld.

No one higher than Lieutenant Colonel would be involved.

Do you mean to tell me the secret service didn’t check for elevated structures within clear sight for a small arms weapon system, in service of a president?
